Promoting Brand Awareness and Consumption of Local Specialty Products
On the afternoon of June 12, the Steering Committee for OCOP (One Commune One Product) product development, branding, product traceability, and e-commerce development in Tra Vinh province (the Steering Committee) held a conference to review the OCOP program for the period of 2019-2022 and discuss the implementation direction until 2025. The conference was co-chaired by Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Mr. Tran Truong Giang, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

During the period of 2019-2022, the implementation of the OCOP Program achieved numerous positive results. The production of various goods in rural areas contributed to the economic restructuring of the province, increasing efficiency and stabilizing the proportion of economic sectors. This promoted the process of rural economic restructuring, which aimed to increase the proportion of industry, services, and professions, creating job opportunities and higher incomes for rural residents. Consequently, the living standards, both material and spiritual, of the rural population improved. The program also led to the diversification of goods and an increase in the added value of products.

Thanks to the province's policies, several financially capable establishments and enterprises made bold investments and adopted advanced machinery and technology in their production processes. This, in turn, enhanced creativity, improved production and business capabilities of farmers, and fostered sustainable community economic development. These efforts contributed to the successful implementation of the province's new rural construction program in recent times.

However, the conference assessment highlighted some limitations in the program's implementation. Active participation by subjects in the OCOP Program has been lacking, as some participants joined the program due to local authority requests, without sufficient connection to capacity-building activities related to production, product development, and market expansion. Most of the production facilities in the province face constraints such as limited financial capacity, lack of skills, small production scale, and slow adoption of innovative production technology and equipment.

Between 2019 and 2022, Tra Vinh had 184 products recognized as OCOP, including 137 products with 3-star ratings, 38 products with 4-star ratings, 3 products with 5-star ratings, and 6 potential 5-star products. The province aims to have at least 165 more OCOP products recognized with 3 to 4 stars by 2025, with approximately 5-7 products proposing solutions to improve their quality to achieve the status of national 5-star products.

On average, the production and business results of the participating subjects have seen an increase in output and revenue ranging from 10% to 30%. They have also expanded their market reach, connected with e-commerce platforms, and actively engaged in trade promotion within and outside the province.

During the conference, the delegates primarily focused on discussing ways to improve the quality of OCOP products while emphasizing their association with new rural construction. They also discussed the business efficiency achieved after a product attains OCOP status and strategies for promoting the implementation of the OCOP Program in conjunction with new rural construction.

Concluding speech by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Quynh Thien

In his concluding speech at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Quynh Thien suggested that specialized departments, branches, and district People's Committees continue organizing effective training, retraining, capacity-building, and knowledge and experience updates for staff and program participants in the future.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of providing regular advice, support, guidance, and assistance in overcoming difficulties and obstacles during the implementation process. It is crucial to carry out promotional activities to introduce and advertise OCOP products through mass media, OCOP product points, and tourist attractions in the province, as well as in other provinces and cities throughout the country. This will help promote brand awareness and stimulate consumption of local specialty products.
