On May 26, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Le Van Han, presided over a meeting to review the province's socio-economic situation in May. The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman Nguyen Trung Hoang, Nguyen Quynh Thien, Le Thanh Binh, as well as leaders from departments, agencies, People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities.

The socio-economic situation in May displayed continued positive changes, surpassing the previous month's performance.

Budget revenue increased significantly, reaching over 940 billion VND, with a cumulative collection of over 8,150 billion VND in the first five months, representing 63.3% of the estimate and a 33.8% year-on-year increase. Domestic revenue accounted for over 2,500 billion VND, reaching 44.6% of the estimate, and rising by more than 5% compared to the same period. Budget expenditure was over 650 billion VND, with total spending in the first five months surpassing 3,000 billion VND, representing 26.7% of the estimate and a 4.8% increase.

Industrial production witnessed a recovery, with the industrial production index doubling compared to the previous month. The estimated industrial production value exceeded 3,900 billion VND, and the cumulative value in the first five months amounted to over 13,600 billion VND, achieving 40.3% of the plan and a 2.8% year-on-year increase.

Efforts in investment promotion, trade facilitation, connection support, advertising, product introduction, and e-commerce development were consistently implemented. Business development yielded positive results, with the establishment of 49 new businesses and 100% registration of transactions online.

The prices of essential goods remained stable. Total retail sales of goods and services in May were estimated at over 4,500 billion VND, and the cumulative figure in the first five months reached nearly 23 trillion VND, representing 43.8% of the plan and a 34.7% year-on-year increase.

Chairman of Duyen Hai District People's Committee Kim Chi Hoa proposed a number of issues at the meeting

Moreover, significant progress was made in job creation, resulting in over 1,800 new jobs in the month. Additionally, 148 workers were sent abroad for a specified period. Cultural and artistic activities, exhibitions, social security initiatives, and visits were organized in commemoration of the 48th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2023). Social order and safety were ensured, with a focus on preventing and combating various types of crime. Preparations for defensive area drills at the provincial level were carried out expeditiously, with a commitment to quality and adherence to the schedule.

However, despite these positive developments, Tra Vinh province still faces some challenges, such as ongoing efforts to control African swine fever, lower rice yield and production compared to the same period last year, and the need to improve the disbursement of public investment capital and national target programs. Additionally, there has been an increase in traffic accidents.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Han delivered a speech

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Le Van Han, has directed several key tasks for June. He instructed the Department of Planning and Investment to collaborate with the Office of the Provincial People's Committee to promptly assess the progress of socio-economic development in the preliminary meeting for the first half of the year. They are also urged to urgently prepare the necessary materials for submission to the mid-year meeting of the 10th Provincial People's Council. One of the main areas of focus is disease prevention in plants and animals. Moreover, there is a need to expedite the disbursement of public investment projects.

Furthermore, it is essential for local authorities to effectively manage and organize the 2023 High School Graduation Exam, ensuring its strict adherence to regulations and maintaining a serious atmosphere. They should also review and expedite the achievement of targets related to labor export, health insurance, and social insurance. It is crucial to closely monitor the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic and other potential diseases. Additionally, efforts should be made to address complaints and denunciations effectively. The provincial level should be prepared to conduct defensive area drills with a focus on ensuring efficiency, quality, and absolute safety.

During the meeting, leaders from various departments, branches, and localities provided their opinions on several matters to be prepared for submission to the mid-2023 meeting of the X-th Provincial People's Council.
