According to the Planning for developing Vietnam's seaport system in the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 20501, Tra Vinh seaport system is a type 1 seaport, including: Duyen Hai - Dinh An wharf area (receiving ships up to 50,000 tons). In particular, Duyen Hai - Dinh An wharf area is a general, container, liquid/gas cargo wharf with the function of serving the Mekong Delta region. Tra Cu - Kim Son port area (receiving ships up to 20,000 tons) and floating wharves, anchorage areas for transshipment, storm avoidance and shelter.

- Channel for ships with large tonnage to enter Hau River, this route is open for ships with a tonnage of up to 10,000 tons full load, 20,000 tons offload from the East Sea estuary to Hau river, running along Dinh An Economic Zone and trading with provinces in the Mekong Delta region. This route serves as an important trade gateway of the Mekong Delta region to other regions in the country and the world by waterway.
