Opening of the My Long Sea Worship Festival in 2024

On the evening of June 15, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tra Vinh province coordinated with the People's Committee of Cau Ngang district to organize the opening ceremony of the My Long Sea Offering Festival in My Long town, Cau Ngang district.

Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Duong Thi Ngoc Tho, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Lam Huu Phuc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Nguyen Van Nga, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of Cau Ngang District People's Committee; Former leaders of the province through different periods along with representatives of departments, branches, provincial organizations and people in Cau Ngang district.

Speaking at the opening of the Festival, Mr. Nguyen Van Nga, Chairman of Cau Ngang District People's Committee, said that the My Long Sea Offering Festival (also known as Nghinh Ong Festival) is held annually on the 10th - 12th day of the lunar calendar, which is one of the important events and highlights of Cau Ngang tourism. This is also a potential and advantage, contributing to promoting and introducing the outstanding features and values of folk festivals in the province, and is an opportunity to promote the local socio-economic development.

My Long Sea Worshiping Festival was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013. This is a very special, traditional festival of the coastal people. It reflects the beliefs, concepts, and folk knowledge of fishermen. The festival also contributes to creating a rich and healthy spiritual life, solidifying community solidarity. Through the festival, fishermen express their gratitude to their ancestors and pray to the gods to protect them in life and production.

The My Long Sea Worship Festival in 2024 also features many unique and attractive activities such as culinary spaces, amateur music performances, sports activities, and folk games. Additionally, there are rituals including the visiting of Dong Khoi Stele, gatherings, worship ceremonies (Tien Giang), Hat Bo performances, Nghinh Nam Hai, Nghinh Ngu Phuong, offerings to soldiers, and sending the ships off to sea.
